Wish I was in Venice for many reasons, mainly to stand on top of this Miranda July sculpture and have my picture taken. After a outright horrible and stress filled June dealing with car accident fallout, I have returned to mass of emails (sorry if anyone has sent me an email in June - I am going to be getting replys sorted this coming week) and a vast mass of empty unwritten pages.
But some progress has been made. This weeks reading...
...was supposed to consist of 'Fighting It' by Regi Clare, but I cannot stop thinking about Miranda July this week, take a look at her websites. I had a read of one of her stories published in Zoetrope here, and have now ordered her short story book second hand: looking forward to a good read. Watched the whole of her film Me, You and Everyone We Know, too (I watched half of it a year ago and gave up) and still didn't quite get it. Although all the references to pooping were pretty hilarious. Yes, pooping is funny.
What else. Check out the free podcasts in the New Yorker if you havn't yet. Excellent. Plus a short story by Lorrie Moore to read. I've read the three stories in The Paris Review that were nominated 2008 National Magazine Award - take a look here. I liked the airy empty space conjured up in “Icebergs” by Alistair Morgan.
