Glasgow Student Short Story Prize

It's been a very busy month or so, setting up the Glasgow Student Short Story Prize! My idea is to find and vigorously promote new writing talent in Glasgow; and more broadly, to support the wider writing and reading of short stories and flash fiction in our Universities. This year Glasgow, next year the world (or, maybe, Scotland!).

There are great prizes, including vouchers and signed books, and a signed first edition of A L Kennedy's new book of short stories 'What Becomes'. All winners and shortlisted entries will be published in the August 2009 edition of From Glasgow to Saturn, the literary journal of Glasgow University . I'll be announcing our very exciting guest judge soon!

If you are a student in Glasgow, enter and let us read your short stories!

If you are based in Glasgow, or know those who might be interested in promoting or being a part of Scotland's newest literary prize, please do spread the word. I am looking for ways to get the word out about this new prize.

The deadline is 20th July, the word limit is just 1000 words and there is no minimum word count. The competition is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at a University in Glasgow. This includes Glasgow University, Strathclyde University, Glasgow Caledonian, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Ok - don't hesitate to post a comment or contact me if you have any thoughts or pointers for the short story prize in its first year! It's a big task, wish me luck...

And, students: I look forward to reading your entries!
